Bio

Miles Chen is a pianist, trombonist, educator, and composer based in Los Angeles. He started playing the piano at 8 years old in Washington where he was born, and started playing the trombone at 13 years old in Florida. In 2024, he graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Global Jazz Studies. During his time at UCLA, he studied under the prolific trombonist/producer/arranger Duane Benjamin (Marvin Gaye; James Brown). In 2022, he was awarded with the Max H. Gluck Fellowship, where he had the opportunity to study jazz improvisation and composition directly under 7 time Grammy winner, Terence Blanchard. Other notable faculty members he received incredible instruction from include Arturo O’Farrill, Hitomi Oba, and Mark Turner.

In 2023, he and his peers formed the band Insight, an experimental Neo-Soul group.

With 3 years of teaching experience across multiple age groups, Miles continues to spread his knowledge and love for music to his students, who are integral to his mission to improve music education worldwide.
